To absorb one barrel of petroleum product, for example, T102 Light Crude (30 API) 42 Gallons (300 Lbs.).)
would require 25 pounds of kenaf based Oil-Suck. About 25 feet of 3-4 inch diameter sock product. Standard Efficiency Polypropylene would require about 3 extra pounds (at $3-5 per pound) .
Add this to the low cost of Arizona grown Oil-Suck and the cost benefits began to pile up. A further
savings is realized in disposal. Since kenaf is all natural the spent sorbent can be incinerated to produce energy and posses no added risk for other disposal methods.
A value added market is developing in which spent sorbent is
CO-fired with coal to produce electricity. Multiple benefits accrue through this practice including reductions in stack gas and pollution.
